Profile
James Dewey advises clients on all aspects of commercial real estate transactions, including acquisition, entitlement, development, construction, operation and disposition of real property, landlord and tenant matters, commercial leasing and finance. He serves as an attorney Of Counsel with the firm and is a member of the Real Estate and Construction Law and Business Services and Governmental Affairs practice groups. James has more than 16 years of experience in commercial real estate leasing, development, operations, and law. James also advises corporations, non-profits and closely held businesses on commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions and governance matters. In addition to his law practice, James is president of Latham Development, LLC, a commercial real estate development firm, and previously served as Vice President of Development for Greenville, SC-based Hughes Commercial Properties. Before joining Hughes, James spent nearly ten years as Manager and later Director of Real Estate for The Fresh Market specialty grocery chain.
James is a member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) and the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), where he has served as a regular speaker and panelist on the commercial real estate industry. He is also a Council Member with the Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG) advising private equity and institutional investors on commercial real estate matters.
James is a 1995 graduate of Wake Forest University, with degrees in Economics and History. He received his law degree with high honors from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 2002, where he was a member of the North Carolina Law Review and Order of the Coif. Upon graduation from law school, James spent four years practicing real estate and corporate law with Smith Moore Leatherwood. Between undergraduate and law school, James was a business process and strategy consultant with Accenture.
James lives in Greensboro with his wife Rebecca and their four children.
